How to Make Your Dream Come True

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a wedding planner?

This question gets answered with a question.
“What do you want a wedding planner to do?”
As a full service caterer, we help with many aspects of your
wedding such as reception site suggestions, menu planning,
and event coordination. If you need someone to choreograph
your entire wedding day, by all means, you need a wedding planner.
If you need basic consulting and planning services, we are
well-qualified to handle your needs.

What aspects of my reception can Affordable Elegance handle?

It is our goal to make your reception a stress-free and seamless occasion.
Our service is designed to take care of all the work so that
your family and friends can truly enjoy the occasion.
We can help with room set-up, placing linens and centerpieces,
food service, cake table services, bar needs, and clean up.
Many services are including in the menu price and service charge.
If you contract for additional services, these will be fully
disclosed in your itemized estimate that is included with your proposal.

How many people will attend the reception?

The R.S.V.P. process can be one of the most challenging aspects
of your reception planning. We recommend that R.S.V.P. cards
are included with your invitations. Even with using R.S.V.P. cards,
we find that people still tend to not respond even though they
are planning to attend. The R.S.V.P. number will give you a
fairly good idea but this number will need to be adjusted
after analyzing the list of invited guests.

How do I plan the menu?

This is a very personal decision based on personal preferences, time of day,
style of event and budget. We will work with you to customize your
menu to capture your preferences and respect your budget.

When is payment due?

A modest deposit is due to place your reservation on our schedule.
Your final guest count and payment are due approximately two weeks
prior to your wedding. Slight increase adjustments can be
made after that time period. We always encourage that the
“right” number is the one that makes the bride –
and her mother – sleep well at night!

When should I cut the cake?

It is often recommended that the bride and groom do the ceremonial
cake cutting shortly after arriving at the reception just before going
to the buffet line. Although the cake will not be served until later,
this gives the bride and groom an opportunity to enjoy their meal
without rushing to the cake table. It also allows cake to be served
as guests are finishing their dinner. There are always guests who
will like to enjoy the meal and a piece of cake, but, will not be
staying for the entire evening's festivities.

Who sits at the head table?

Generally, the answer is the bride and groom and their attendants.
We are often asked whether the spouse/guest of the attendant are
included at the head table or whether ushers should be included.
These issues sometimes can be challenging and sometimes lead
to having a section of reserved tables rather than
or in addition to a head table.

How does the time of day affect your planning?

The time of day has definitely impacts the choice of menu.
Generally, more substantial food is served if your reception
encompasses a natural meal time. The type of food to be provided
at the reception should be disclosed on the invitation.

Should I have a receiving line?

This is a very personal choice and can be accommodated in a
variety of ways. One very effective way to handle this is for
the bride and groom to circulate at the reception and not have
a formal receiving line. The purpose is to make guests feel
welcome and appreciated. If a formal line is used, consideration
should be given to location and timing.
